2020 GLOBAL CRISIS

INTRODUCTION

We started our year of university virtually as the cases of covid-19 rose rapidly. As a way to flatten the curve, we will not be having any physical classes for our own good. From lacking of knowledge in terms of online learning, I have to keep up with the technology to make sure I am on the right track to further my study. The first step is the hardest and I started to feel it through online learning. It may seem easy and simple, however for the one who is trying to understand the lesson, I faced it with difficulties. Nevertheless, once I got used to it, I managed to adapt with the situation better and look at it on a brighter side.

PROS & CONS

For sure, everything has its own pros and cons, including open distance learning. Learning online allows the students to pursue and complete their desired courses from anywhere with the use of computer and internet connection. One can study after work, in the middle of the night or during weekends. Learning materials and instruction can actually be obtained online at any time.

Despite of the benefits gained, the downside effects of ODL are taking a toll on most of the students. First of all, distance learning only limits students to classes and we need to study materials that are based online. Though students can interact through chat rooms, discussion boards, emails and/or video conferencing software, the experience cannot be compared to that of a traditional campus. With no face-to-face interaction with instructors and other students, we find it hard to keep track of our course work and assignments.

SUBJECTS

TSL014 READING

Reading was actually the subject that I took for granted as I mistakenly thought that this subject is one of the easiest out of all. I was wrong! Reading can become really tough if you do not focus in class and jot down notes.

TSL034 L & S

Listening and speaking is really fun! This is the only subject that we can learn in class which is really saddening but still, having to learn this subject, I can speak better than ever and that is what I like the most about it.

TSL082 LITERATURE

Not gonna lie, I have a hard time with literature as this subject is really challenging when it comes to interpreting your understanding of a story onto a paper. It becomes tougher when you don't make reading as your hobby.

TSL051 COLLEGE STUDY

Okay to be honest, I didn't see the purpose of CSS subject in TESL syllabus in the beginning, but yes indeed as usual I was totally wrong. Spending time doing social media diary making me realise that this subject helps me to bring out my confidence and never fails to help me think critically.

TSL024 WRITING

Writing is really new as the syllabus consists of topics that we are not familiar with. Academic writing is hard but can be really simple once you comprehend the lesson well.

TSL041 GRAMMAR I

Grammar becomes my favourite subject in TESL as I found out that grammar can easily be understand and applied in our writings. However, after learning a lot of grammar topics, I tend to find grammar mistakes in everyone's writing in social medias hm.

CTU071 ISLAMIC EDU

CTU is where i feel homey as we learn this subject without any pressure. Having to learn CTU in university life helps to remind me to be a great Muslim and a great educator in the future.
